When Did Cloud Computing Start to Exist?

Cloud computing is one of the services offered by IT solutions in California like Amucomp Solutions.

It is, without a doubt, one of the technologies that redefined how people used, moved, or shared data between themselves or their business organizations. Cloud computing and cloud-based storage have made files easier to access, and cloud service providers have stepped up to ensure these data’s security.

Cloud computing offered by IT service in Montebello, California, has made doing business more convenient and more economical. We cannot help but wonder, just who thought of this revolutionary service? Which personalities in the IT industry can help get the credit?

Eric Schmidt, the chief executive officer for Google around 2006, is credited with first using the term and bringing awareness to the technology. However, the concept was already visualized as early as 1996.

An article by the Technology Review gives that distinction to two companies – Compaq and Netcentric, and their respective CEOs – George Favaloro and Sean O’Sullivan.

According to the article, the technology that both men visualized and worked to bring into fruition contained all the features that are now known as the cloud computing service IT support companies offer nowadays.

It’s also interesting to note that O’Sullivan’s online app was actually intended to help providers bill clients for data usage like streaming videos and downloading files.

The article, however, was vague as to who really invented the term between Favaloro and O’Sullivan. What is known, however, is that the term must have already been in wide usage within IT circles by the time Eric Schmidt brought it to the public consciousness.
